Welcome to Example Federation
We are delighted that you want to know more about us.
If you want to look NOW for the nearest WI to where you live, click on "Find a WI" above and enter your postcode.
We have a purpose-built website: www.cumbriawestmorlandwi.org.uk.
Please click on the link to find out all about what the Cumbria-Westmorland Federation has to offer and what events are coming up.
(But please bear with us as we are currently updating both our web platforms over the next few weeks).
Our Federation, which represents the former county of Westmorland, was formed in 1920 and covers a beautiful area of mountains and lakes, the land of Wordsworth, Ruskin and Beatrix Potter. We have WIs in an area ranging from Barrow and the Furness area in the south, to Kirkby Stephen in the Eden Valley in the north east and Dentdale in the east.
Our 69 WIs all have their own individual personality, each meeting the needs of its members. Art and crafts, singing, rambling, eating out and day trips are all popular. Most of our WIs meet in the evenings but we do have a few afternoon meetings and one lunchtime meeting.
We hold classes, events and social get-togethers at our WI office in Kendal and regular monthly groups for creative writers, embroiderers and painters and we regularly run tutor-led sessions for new crafts or other skills and pastimes such as cookery and computer skills.
Our various Federation Committees work hard to provide classes and events, outings and holidays across a vast range of subjects to ensure that there really is something for everyone.
Our monthly newsletter WI News contains information on all current activities; please let us know if you would like a copy. Cumbria-Westmorland's two main avenues of publicity are the Country Fest at Crooklands near Kendal (held each year in late May or early June) and the Westmorland County Agriculture Society Show (held each year on the second Thursday in September, also at Crooklands).
Our own marquees at these events give us the opportunity to display the traditional crafts for which the WI is renowned, while at the same time-sharing the wonderful sense of fun, friendship and learning that comes with being a WI member. If you would like to join us, or visit any of our WIs, you can be assured of a warm welcome in a beautiful setting in Cumbria-Westmorland.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the WI and want to speak to someone in person, please telephone the Cumbria-Westmorland Federation office in Kendal on 01539 720921. Alternatively, email email@example.com and we will be able to put you in touch with the right WI for you.
We look forward to hearing from you.
